THE GAME HAS EVOLVED

HAVE WE LOST THE GAME?
Definitely not, the game has evolved.

Two weeks ago in the article HAVE WE LOST THE GAME?, we asked you what streetgolf still means today. You answered loud and clear: the spirit is alive, but we’ve got to stay sharp to keep it that way. Here’s what came back from Laon to Copenhagen, Paris to Dudelange—different voices, same heartbeat.

IT ALL STARTED WITH FREEDOM

Forget scorecards and gatekeepers. Streetgolf was built on freedom, to play where you want, how you want, with whoever’s around.
It’s more than sport. It’s urban exploration, street culture, rebellion

From the old industrial zones of Belval to the quiet weekends in La Défense, every curb, stairwell, or parking lot becomes a playground.
You told us: the magic is in seeing the city as a course, and bringing people into that vision.

The real game is human

A “good player”? Not the one who wins, but the one who shares, teaches, lifts up the crew, and maybe rants a little when they miss… but keeps smiling.
Formats like Best Ball and Worst Ball keep the fun over form.

“Let’s reward creativity, energy, generosity, not just the lowest score.”

But the spirit is under pressure

We’ve all felt it. Competition creeping in. Rules tightening. Score over soul. Some say it’s inevitable. Others say it’s a fork in the road.
But most agree: when the will to win trumps the will to share, something gets lost. And if streetgolf becomes just another tournament scene, we risk becoming what we once rejected.

Let’s not forget about cheating.

The higher the stakes, the stronger the urge to win and sometimes that means moving the ball to a better spot, or “forgetting” to count a few strokes. We’ve all witnessed those awkward moments during competitions. It’s disrespectful to the players who follow the rules and to the organizers.

“Streetgolf was never about shortcuts. We play the street how it is. Respect the game. Respect the playground. Respect each other.”

We’re all ambassadors of this sport. Our sport needs to attract new players, not push them away.
When great players tell me they won’t compete anymore because of this kind of behavior, that’s not just sad, it’s dangerous for our future.

What’s next?

Some of you dream of official leagues, world cups, affiliations. Others crave open sessions, playful formats, travel & discovery.
Maybe we don’t need to choose. Maybe the future is plural: Serious comps and wild explorations. Rankings and rooftop missions.
As long as we protect the core: Freedom. Creativity. Inclusion. Connection.

LAST WORD

Streetgolf isn’t about rebranding golf. It’s about reinventing how we play together.

Let’s keep it raw. Let’s keep it weird. Let’s keep the street in streetgolf.
